Employer Insurance
Recommendation: There’s an affordable annual insurance policy that covers you when hiring occasional help, like someone to clean the gutters, fix a plumbing issue, do garden maintenance, or any other type of maintenance around your home or property.
It’s called Riesgos del Trabajo - Ocasional, and it costs around $80 per year.
This insurance is designed for homeowners who occasionally hire workers. It covers accidents or injuries that may happen while someone is working on your home, lot, or declared property, even if it’s just a one-time job.
Having this insurance means you’re protected as an employer, and the person you hire is also covered. It’s a smart way to stay safe and responsible.
I highly recommend signing up—especially if you plan to hire anyone for house or yard work this year.
If you employ a cleaner, for example, who has an accident while at your house, she/he could go to the emergency room at the Caja for attention, she/he would be taken care of, but it being an accident at “work”, you could be liable for that accident and forced to pay the Caja services if the worker is not insured under Caja. This Insurance for RT at INS covers the worker, but also the employer, so an injury because of an accident will be treated at an INS facility instead of Caja. So Caja would be for healthcare, INS for accidents

If you hire through a contractor, make sure the contractor has his workers under INS, so that they are covered for any accidents. If you are hiring the worker directly for occasional works, then having this Insurance is your safety net.
