Receiving Packages in Alegría

Costa Rica does not use formal street addresses like many other countries. Instead, addresses are descriptive and rely on nearby landmarks. Here’s how to receive mail and packages in Alegría:

1. Address Format for Receiving Packages

If you need to receive a package via a courier service such as DHL, Correos de Costa Rica, FedEx, or UPS, use the following format:

For local deliveries, some courier services may ask for a WhatsApp number for contact before delivery.

2. Using Package Forwarding Services

If ordering from international websites that do not ship to Costa Rica directly, you can use package forwarding services such as:

  • Aeropost – Provides a Miami address and ships packages to Costa Rica.
  • Correo de Costa Rica’s Box Correos – Offers a similar service for international purchases.
  • Jetbox – Another Miami-based shipping service.

$4/lb by boat - takes 4-6 weeks. $80/20 lb minimum.

It’s up to you to follow up if your purchase gets split into different packages to contact CR shipping and request that they be consolidated; otherwise they might charge you $80x however many tracking #s arrive. They don’t have a consolidation services for grouping separate purchases.

These services clear customs and deliver the package to a pickup location or your home.

3. Local Package Deliveries

  • Some businesses, including food suppliers and farm product deliveries, offer direct delivery to Alegría.
  • Organic Fruit and Veg Delivery service - Ileana - (on Wednesdays) 506-8520-0990
  • Organic Fruit and Veg Delivery service - Alan
  • Meat delivery is available every Friday through the Grass Fed Meat Delivery Service (WhatsApp group).
  • Coconut Water Delivery is available on Monday throught the Alegria Coconut Water Delivery (WhatsApp group). Coconut shells should be set aside for mulch or biochar instead of composting.
