Big Dream for 2025: Let's Grow Together!
This year, we are embarking on a beautiful and transformative journey:
We want to turn our Zone 2 — the forest area next to the straight garden beds, just across from the Yoga Shala — into a vibrant, living syntropic agroforestry system!
This vision is a big one — and it will take many hands, hearts, and smiles to bring it to life.
We invite you to be part of this exciting project: to plant, nurture, and celebrate together as we regenerate our land and grow an abundance of fruits for our community.
Your energy, presence, and love for the earth are the seeds that will make this dream a reality.
Let’s create a lush, thriving future — together!
What is syntropic agroforestry?
Syntropic agroforestry is a way of working with nature by planting trees, fruits, and vegetables together in dynamic, layered systems. It regenerates the soil, nurtures biodiversity, and creates abundant harvests — all while restoring balance and beauty to the land.
What needs to be done?
Our land already holds a beautiful foundation of tree lines — we call these Row A. Here’s how we will work together to enrich and expand this living system:
🌳 Strengthening Row A
- Gap-filling: We will fill the open spaces in the existing rows with Breadfruit and Avocado trees.
- Companion planting: Between the larger trees, we’ll plant Bananas and emergent trees to create layers of growth and canopy.
- Soil support: Every meter, we’ll plant supporting species and nitrogen-fixers to nourish and stabilize the system naturally.
- Edge planting: Along the edges, we will plant Mombasa grass to protect and define the growing areas.
🌴 Creating New Row B
- Preparation: In between each Row A, we will create new rows — Row B.
To prepare the soil, we will hand-till and add important soil amendments to enrich the ground.
- Planting during the rainy season:
- Coconut and Pejibaye (peach palm) will be the new backbone trees.
- Bananas, Jackfruit, and Mamon Chino (Rambutan) will join them to create a rich diversity.
- Support and edges: As with Row A, we’ll plant supporting species throughout and strengthen the edges with grasses and ground covers.
🧑🏽🌾 Making it Easy and Joyful for Everyone
We know it might sound overwhelming — and yes, it’s a big project! That’s why the Farm Review Committee (FRC) will break everything down into small, manageable tasks.
To make planting even easier:
- We will use a color-coding system for the plants.
- You will receive a simple planting guide to follow.
- No previous experience is needed — just your enthusiasm and willingness to help!
