Our garden is abundant and beautiful — but with just a small team tending it, we rely on the love and support of our community to bring the harvest to life. Your helping hands make all the difference!
Harvest Day
We have two morning shifts and are looking for at least two kind souls to help with harvesting, and one for the fruit-serving shift—to help gather the beautiful gifts the Earth is offering.
1. Harvesting
📅 Tuesdays 🕕 6 - 8 am
Tasks:
💬 Ask the Lead of the harvest which bed you get assigned and remember the bed number!
🧺 Bring one of the available crates from the dome to put the produce in.
✂️ Use clippers to harvest. For some plants (like kale), just trim the leaves, for others (like celery, lettuce, pak choi) remove the whole plant and trim off the roots .
🍂 Place roots or withered leaves in a separate crate or wheelbarrow for compost.
⚖️ The follow crops are measured per weighing:
Tiquisque
🔢 All other crops are measured by counting.
💦 If necessary, give the produce a quick rinse to remove most of the dirt - just enough so it’s easier for folks to wash at home.
🧺 Depending on crop, either:
- place them directly on the harvest table
- or place items in water containers to keep them fresh (lettuce and pak choi)
💬 Report bed number and amount/weight of produce to Karina for documentation.
2. Fruit and juice serving
📅 Tuesdays 🕗 7:45 - 9:30 am
Tasks:
🔪 Cut the fruit for the community. You will find it on one of the tables.
🥤 Press the sugar cane and make juice. This is a great job for teenagers.
